The Changing needs of SMBs
by Sumeet SabharwalThe recent NaviSite case study with leading India media company Webchutney highlights the changing needs of managed dedicated hosting customers in a post Web 2.0 business environment. It’s something of a paradox, but when budget tightening is the norm, purchase decisions are motivated by more than simply price point. For Webchutney and for many other SMBs in similar positions, the difference maker is world class customer service.
While every business is unique, their requirements from a service provider are often quite similar. They want things to work, and when problems occur, they want quick resolutions. That second part is important. Hosting customers are much more sophisticated, they understand that when it comes to complex applications and server deployments, occasional issues are inevitable. As Webchutney COO Rahul Nanda put it, “Just about any host is going to work okay 95% of the time. How they respond when you are having problems is the key.”

NaviSite Dedicated Hosting – Business Partners for 21st Century
by William Toll
Doing business in the post Web 2.0 economy requires fresh approaches and new ways of thinking for companies of all sizes, from one man bands to large enterprises. Reliance on traditional practices means diminishing returns, and smart businesses can ill afford to stand pat while the rules are being rewritten around them. The realities of a global business environment pose unique challenges, but also great opportunities, and rethinking and adapting business models can be the difference between success or failure.
Nowhere is this more evident than in vendor partner relationships and what you should expect from them. We’re used to thinking of vendor partners as basic supply and demand relationships. That is, your business needs a supply of A and buys it from distributor B. The value of these relationships to the business is based almost entirely on price point. Customer service may play a role, but won’t trump a low cost when it comes to bottom line revenue.

Small Businesses Have Big Company Hosting Needs
by William TollWhy should reliability, security, and performance only be available to the Enterprise? These fundamental technology hosting requirements are just as important, and in some cases more important, to the small business. Small businesses are just that – small, and any issue could cause big problems that small businesses just cannot afford – both financially and with the public perception of their offer.
It is often said:
-A visitor to a Website has less than 3 seconds of patience while waiting for a Web page to load or home page to appear.
A small business that does not backup up its data has a higher rate of failure than one that does backup their data.
With reliability, security, and performance being so important, for both SMB’s and Enterprises, it makes sense for service providers that have the capability to service both customers with the same fundamental core set of functionality. This is exactly the NaviSite philosophy: deliver the foundational requirements of the Enterprise and make it accessible to the SMB.
All NaviSite dedicated servers feature powerful CPUs, dual hard drives, RAID 1 or better, Intrusion Protection System Tipping Point, Anti-Virus for the server, all delivered across a Cisco powered network and Tier-1 network providers.
